Our national flag is the symbol of the independence and prosperity of our country. It is rectangular in size. There is a red circle in the midst of green in our national flag. The ratio of the length and the width of the flat is 10:6. Red and green colours are used in it. The red colour symbolizes the blood of the martyrs and the green symbolizes that the martyrs who laid down their lives for the freedom of our country are evergreen. Late artist Quamrul Hassan designed it. It is hoisted atop public and private buildings on different national occasions. The national flag is kept half-mast on the Martyrs’ Day on 21^st February. It was first raised on the premises of the University of Dhaka on the 2^nd March 1971. The design of that flag was a little bit different earlier. Then the map of Bangladesh was in the middle of the red circle. Our national flag represents our national identity. To show due respect and honour to our national flag is our bounden duty.

অনুবাদঃ আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকা আমাদের দেশের স্বাধীনতা ও সমৃদ্ধির প্রতীক। এটি আকারে আয়তক্ষেত্রাকার। আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকার সবুজের মাঝখানে একটি লালবৃত্ত রয়েছে। পতাকার দৈর্ঘ্য ও প্রস্থের অনুপাত ১০:৬। এটিতে লাল ও সবুজ রং ব্যবহৃত হয়। লাল রং শহিদদের রক্তকে প্রতীকায়িত করে এবং সবুজ রং প্রতীকায়িত করে যে, যারা দেশের স্বাধীনতার জন্য নিজেদের জীবনকে উৎসর্গ করেছিলেন সে সব শহিদদের চির অঙ্কন থাকবেন। প্রয়াত চিত্রশিল্পী কামরুল হাসান এর নকশা করেছিলেন। এটি বিভিন্ন জাতীয় দিবসে সরকারি ও বেসরকারি ভবনের উপরে উত্তোলন করা হয়। জাতীয় পতাকা ২১ শে ফেব্রæয়ারি শহিদ দিবসে অর্ধনমিত রাখা হয়। ১৯৭১ সালের ২ মার্চ এটি প্রথম ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রাঙ্গণে উত্তোলন করা হয়েছিল। ঐ পতাকাটির নকশা পূর্বে একটু ভিন্ন ছিল। তখন লাল বৃত্তটির মাঝে বাংলাদেশের মানচিত্র ছিল। আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকা আমাদের জাতীয় পরিচয় বহন করে। আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকার প্রতি যথাযথ সম্মান ও শ্রদ্ধা প্রদর্শন করা আমাদের আবশ্যকীয় কর্তব্য।
