A rickshaw puller is a poor day labourer. He earns his livelihood by pulling the rickshaw. He is a familiar figure in our country. He is seen on the roads of cities and villages. Generally he lives in a slum area. He carries passengers and goods from one place to another on payment. He hires a rickshaw from the owner on daily basis. There are a few who pull their own rickshaws. A rickshaw puller works from dawn to dusk and even to the later part of the night. He has to pull the rickshaw in the sun and in the rain. He is generally gentle by nature. But sometimes he demands high fare. His job is very tiresome. He feels tired but cannot take rest. He has to live from hand to mouth as he does not earn much to support his family. Sometimes his family passes the day with a little food when he earn too title. He leads a miserable life in a slum area. His social status is very low as well. People often treat him very poorly. In spite of all these odd conditions, he feels proud to live on his fair earnings from his sweat. So, we should show due respect to a rickshaw puller.

অনুবাদঃ রিক্সাচালক হল একজন গরিব দিনমজুর। সে রিক্সা চালিয়ে তার জীবিকা উপার্জন করে। আমাদের দেশে সে একজন পরিচিত ব্যক্তি। শহর ও গ্রামের রাস্তায় তাকে দেখা যায়। সাধারণত সে বস্তি এলাকায় বাস করে। সে টাকার বিনিময়ে যাত্রী এবং মালামাল এক স্থান থেকে অন্য স্থানে নিয়ে যায়। সে দৈনিক চুক্তিতে মালিকের কাছ থেকে রিক্সা ভাড়া করে। খুব কম সংখ্যক রিক্সাচালক আছে যারা নিজেদের (মালিকানাধীন) রিক্সা চালায়। একজন রিক্সাচালক সকাল থেকে সন্ধ্যা এমনকি গভীর রাত পর্যন্তও রিক্সা চালায়। তাকে রোদে ও বৃষ্টিতে রিক্সা চালাতে হয়। সে সাধারণত শান্ত প্রকৃতির হয়। কিন্তু মাঝে মাঝে সে বেশি ভাড়া দাবি করে। তার কাজ খুবই ক্লান্তকর। সে ক্লান্তিবোধ করে কিন্তু বিশ্রাম নিতে পারে না। যেহেতু সে তার পরিবারের ভরণপোষণ করার পক্ষে বেশি রোজগার করে না সেহেত তাকে দিন এনে দিন খেতে হয়। মাঝে মাঝে তার পরিবার সামান্য খাবার খেয়ে দিন কাটায় যখন সে খুব সামান্য আয় করে। সে বস্তি এলাকায় দুর্বিষহ জীবনযাপন করে। তার সামাজিক মর্যাদাও খুব নিচু। লোকজন প্রায়ই খুব খারাপভাবে তার সাথে আচরণ করে। এসব বিরূপ অবস্থা সত্তে¡ও নিজের ঘামে অর্জিত সৎ উপার্জন জীবিকা দ্বারা জীবন নির্বাহ করে বলে সে গর্ববোধ করে। তাই একজন রিক্সাচালককে আমাদের যথাযথ সম্মান দেখানো উচিত।
